Join us as we explore how Up to Us empowers the leaders of today and tomorrow through its various programs and, most prominently, its upcoming Leadership Bootcamp.
Imagine a place where young leaders gather to sharpen their skills, connect with like-minded peers, and gain a profound understanding of fiscal policy and community organizing. That place is the Up to Us Leadership Bootcamp. This two-day, all-expenses-paid workshop, held in the heart of Washington D.C., is a transformative experience that equips you with the tools to make a real impact on campus and in your community.
The Up to Us Leadership Bootcamp has a clear mission: to nurture the leaders of tomorrow who will drive change in fiscal policy, social justice, voter advocacy, and more. During this intensive program, participants immerse themselves in:
"The Up to Us Leadership Bootcamp serves as a powerful opportunity for students driven to make a lasting impact within their communities. It's a transformative experience to learn about US fiscal policy and civic engagement, igniting the flames of motivation and arming students with the tools and know-how to champion and take action on issues that you care about,” says Associate Director of Up to Us, Monica Rodrigues.
The first Up to Us Bootcamp was held in February of 2023 and was a roaring success. Here’s what past participants had to say:
“The 2023 Leadership Bootcamp was such a transformative experience that motivated me to utilize my passion and put it into action! I feel very inspired to inform people about how the national debt is an issue of all issues and to take action to create better economic opportunities for us all,” one Up to Us Bootcamp participant said.
Another reflected, “Up to Us has given us tools to take on the world, and because of these workshops, I can proudly say that I am prepared to “do well by doing good” things in my community!”
The Up to Us Campus Competition is another avenue through which we mold future leaders. This national competition challenges college students to raise awareness about America's fiscal challenges and engage their peers in constructive dialogue.
Participants in the Campus Competition become ambassadors for fiscal responsibility. They organize events, engage with their peers, and take on leadership roles to address complex fiscal issues. This experience enhances their understanding of economics while honing their leadership skills.
The impact of the Campus Competition is undeniable. Not only do deserving participants win fabulous prizes, but they also set out to nurture a sense of purpose and responsibility. They become advocates for fiscal responsibility, sparking discussions on campus and driving positive change. Their stories inspire others to join the movement.
Up to Us doesn't stop at the Bootcamp and Campus Competition. We offer a range of programs and initiatives that contribute to the development of our Up to Us alumni community. All alumni are eligible to apply to our suite of opportunities including:
For example, 2021 Civic Engagement Fellow Deja Daniel interned on Capitol Hill for the Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA), helping serve his Georgia constituents. Deja supported the constituent’s requests regarding housing, passports, immigration, and unemployment cases. Hear more about Deja’s experience here.
Julia Brandenstein, a 2022 Civic Engagement Fellow, interned at Stony Brook University's Center for Civic Justice, an organization dedicated to supporting students to become active participants in the democratic process. In her Fellowship, she developed a program called Democracy 101, which used peer-to-peer learning to teach students the basics of civic engagement. Through the program, the students learned who their local officials are, the responsibilities of different elected officials within various parts of the governmental body, how to contact these officials, and ways to stay civically engaged outside of the campus.
Up to Us is a movement that empowers young leaders to shape a better fiscal future for all of us. The importance of fiscal leadership cannot be overstated, and Up to Us provides the tools and opportunities for you to step into that role.
